Guide
Research that ends in a document — with sources you can check.
Chat answers evaporate. Nabu’s research ends as a file on your disk: a written brief with a link to every page it read — so you can verify claims instead of trusting them.
How it works with Nabu
- Ask a question with a deliverable.
You ask
Find European suppliers of anodized aluminum enclosures: minimum order, lead time, price range if listed. Write it up in suppliers.md with a link for every claim.
- Watch it search and read. Searches and page reads show up in the live action log as they happen — you see exactly which pages the answer is built from.
- Get a document, not a chat bubble. The result is a real file saved where you asked — a brief you can send, not a conversation that scrolls away.
- Check any claim. Every fact carries its link. If a source looks weak, say so — Nabu goes back and re-checks with better ones.
- Combine with your files. “Compare these suppliers against last year’s vendor list” — Nabu reads your spreadsheet and the web in the same task.
Why this is safe
- Sources you can check. Every claim links to where it came from.
- You watch the reading list. The live log shows each page as it’s read — no mystery corpus.
- New files are still changes. The document Nabu writes is logged and undoable, like everything else it does.
What you need
Nabu is a free desktop app for macOS — universal build, signed and notarized by Apple. Research works with any model: your own API key for OpenAI, Claude, or any OpenAI-compatible provider; the twelve models included with Pro+ and Max; or a local model from the Model Hub. Web reading needs a connection — the writing and your files stay on your machine.
Questions
Where do the answers come from?
From live web pages Nabu searches and reads while you watch — each one appears in the action log, and each claim in the finished document links back to its page.
Can it use my files too?
Yes. Point it at a spreadsheet or a folder and it will combine your data with what it finds on the web, in the same task.
Which model should I use?
Any works. Pick one yourself, or leave Nabu on Auto — it routes light steps to a light model and signs each answer with the model it used.
