Guide
Organize a messy folder with AI — and undo it if it guesses wrong.
Every computer has one: the Downloads folder, the Desktop, the “scans” directory with four hundred files named IMG_2047.pdf. Nabu reads what’s inside each file and puts the folder in order — while you watch every step.
How it works with Nabu
- Point Nabu at the folder. Name it in the chat — “my Downloads folder” — or give the path.
- Say what “organized” means to you.
You ask
Go through my Downloads folder. Rename the screenshots by what’s on them, group everything into subfolders by type, and list anything that looks like a duplicate.
- Watch the plan run. Nabu reads each file — PDFs, images, Word docs, spreadsheets — and shows a live log of every action as it happens: read screenshot-04.png · rename → invoice-acme-march.pdf · move → /Invoices.
- Approve the big moves. Renaming two hundred files, or deleting anything at all, is a risky change — so Nabu stops and asks first, with the exact list of what it’s about to do.
- Don’t like the result? Undo. Nabu snapshots before it acts. One click rolls the folder back to exactly how it was.
Why this is safe
- You see every step. A live action log, not a spinner.
- Nothing risky happens silently. Deletes, mass renames, moves — Nabu asks first.
- Everything is reversible. Snapshot-then-act means “undo” is real, not a promise.
What you need
Nabu is a free desktop app for macOS (universal — Apple Silicon and Intel, signed and notarized by Apple). Bring any AI model: your own API key for OpenAI, Claude, or any OpenAI-compatible provider; twelve models included with the Pro+ and Max plans; or a local model from the built-in Model Hub — with a local model, the folder never leaves your machine.
Questions
Will it delete anything without asking?
No. Deleting is a risky action, and risky actions stop at an approval gate — you see the exact list of what’s about to happen before anything does.
What if I don’t like how it organized things?
Undo it. Nabu takes a snapshot before changing your files, so one click puts the folder back exactly as it was.
Do my files leave my computer?
Only what’s needed goes to the model you chose — and if you run a local model from the Model Hub, nothing leaves your machine at all.
